Week 11 - Continue creating wearable structure

My wearable structure continued in week 11 when i started to hand stitch the deconstructed army jacket onto the 3D shaped tights that were taken off from the chair once they had dryed.

The Final product is to be showcased at the Fashion show at 3pm at UEL Fashion studio in AVA

Week 10 - Wearable Structure

My wearble structure consists of tights by recreating the glue and cloth task done in previous lessons, and using the deconstructed army jacket. I 1st created my 3D shape using the nylon tights, PVA glue, and also some red paint to finish...

Week 9 (Afternoon) Pleating workshop - Creating own pleated fabric

I created my own pleat by 1st drawing 3cm apart lines on a piece of 1metre brown paper. After i had drawn the lines, i then began to fold over each one very carefully. Continuing the same process on the 2nd half of the 1 metre paper, i then took my fabric and placed it inbetween each fold until it was fully in between both pieces of paper.

After this i then used a steam iron the flatten the whole thing, and left it to cool off before unwrapping the whole thing.

Week 9 - Pleating Workshop

In week 9, we had a visitor showing us different types of fabric that had been pleated, from simple zig zag pleats to more complicated ones. I first took pictures of all the different types of pleated fabrics that were shown and then moved on to creating my own pleated fabric. Here are some pictures i had taken at the beginning of the lesson...

Week 7 - Garment Deconstruction (2)

Contiuing on from week 6, once i had unpicked all bits of my jacket, i then did something similar to the glue and cloth task. By using each individual piece of the original jacket, i then started moulding it onto a chair to create a different 3D shape that was not intended for the human body, but a totally different type of shape.

After all pieces were put together onto the chair, i then took the whole thing off the chair and started moulding my new 3D shape onto the manican to see how many different 3D shapes could be created.

Week 6 - Garment Deconstruction

First, we were given a Swedish army Jackets donated to our class. We then individually had to look deeper into the jacket and pick out every detail, such as buttons, pockets etc. I started by looking at the outside of the jacket and worked my way to the inside...

I then turned the jacket inside out, and in detail, looked at the jacket to see which parts i should unpick and take apart. Once i had figured out what unique areas i should leave sewn in, i started to unpick the jacket and take it apart bit by bit...

Week 5 - Glue and Cloth Continue...

In week 5, we had to take our tights off the chair, and use the shapes that it had formed to create 3D shapes on to the manican. I used my fabric off the chair to create wearable shapes to fit the manican. In total i created 10 different structures. Here are examples of 2 of the shapes i made.

Week 4 - Glue and Cloth Task

In week 4, we had to bring in 1ltre of PVA glue and nylon tights. Using these materials we then had to wrap a chair up in cling film and ontop of it use the nylon tights (that had been soaked in pva glue) to create shapes. Once the whole chair was covered with the tights/fabric, we then had to wait for it to settle ready to use on the manicans in week 5.

Week 3 - Paper Folding Large Scale.

In week 3... We began working on shapes on a larger Scale by using the small scale 3D shapes as a guide. I used a manican to lay out all my shapes to create 1 large 3D piece.

Week 2 - Paper Folding

In week 2... We were required to learn paper folding. I was given the shape of a triange and from this shape, i had to produce 8 different 3D structures incorporating the original triangle. Each shape had to be different by either adding new shapes onto or cutting out parts of the triangle. This is what i came up with...
